disorganized TTRPG musical flailing 4
May. 23rd, 2023 04:33 pmthis time it's for my grave cleric Tali from our Curse of Strahd campaign. I've played significantly less of him than of Skink, who I've been playing since '21, but I'm very fond of him and his goth-y bullshit. I went with Blood On My Name by the Brothers Bright:
Tali's whole deal is that he died five years before the start of the campaign. There's a druid spell called Reincarnation that brings somebody back from the dead, but in a different form than their previous one, so a tiefling can be reborn as a half-orc or (like in Tali's case) a sun elf can be reborn as a shadar-kai, the gothiest of the elf subraces. Shadar-kai tend to be followers of the Raven Queen, a deity of death and memory, and that's the goddess that Tali currently serves as a cleric. Tali has lost most of his memories of his previous life aside from the five minutes before he died, which were obviously pretty lousy. that's why this song goes with him in my brain, the repeated cry of "oh Lazarus, how did your debts get paid?" because Tali is still trying to work off the debt of being reborn and the barely-remembered sins of his old life.
.... okay, and Barovia (the location of the campaign) is a vampire-ridden shitshow, so the references to blood and the fire and the hounds of hell all amuse me more than they probably should. poor Tali is doing his best to keep his party alive in hell and he needs a goddamn vacation.

Date: 2023-05-24 05:33 pm (UTC)I feel like the Strahd crew is particularly difficult about opening up about their pasts because a) the situation feels both urgent and (they hope) temporary so the focus is on getting tf out of Barovia rather than building a relationship between party members and b) they're a bunch of traumatized goth disasters with various terrible pasts that they'd rather set themself on fire than discuss. hell, we didn't know Ossethh was a yuan-ti until a session ago! but the trauma bonding is slowly kicking in, so I'm hoping that people will start opening up. or that the dinner with Strahd rips things wide open, because you know that fucker used his Detect Thoughts to get the good dirt to manipulate people with. I'm hype. :3
I love both Terra and Athena so much for their wildly different approaches to their personal lives. Athena hides like a sick cat and Terra's an uncomplicated open book.
