We've got a couple of strays hanging around our house, too-- one who I think had to've been dumped or something because he's way too used to people and esp. small children to have never been a pet; and one who's thisclose to feral. She'll come up to the edge of the porch and eat the food, keeping an eye on us the entire time, all "evil human scum OM NOM hate you all MUNCH".
