- Needs moar Castiel.
- Boy, that Jensen Ackles is so hunky!
- That was SUCH a Jeff psych-out; you should've heard T and I gasp like dying goldfish. MEEP.
- IDK, I like Paris. She was good in Repo. I can't hate somebody who laughs at themselves, y'know?
- I love that every car is automatically female to Dean.
- Soooo... the first Latino character on SPN is a maid who speaks broken English? Nice work, Kripke. SIGH.

Actually I kinda viewed Nancy in In Jus Bello as Latina. That's how I wrote her anyway. Well, half-Latina, since her last name was Fitzgerald, but I knew people growing up who were half Puerto-Rican and half-German that she reminded me of, so...yeah.

I saw Nancy as Latina as well.

And I was willing to cut the maid some slack since she had just seen Abraham Lincoln kill her boss... but yeah, it wasn't the classiest writing choice ever. *le sigh* Someday we'll get some awesome female characters that don't die after one episode. Ellen rocks, but we need more of her.

Here's my fic about her.

I grew up in a Hispanic neighborhood, so the statues etc that Nancy had on her desk were very familiar to me culturally. It's a Catholic thing, yes, but statues of the virgin Mary especially are very typical of Hispanic cultures, as well as some other European countries like Portugal, Spain and Italy...

Anyway, I liked the idea of her being half-latina, so I went with it:)

I'm sorry. I was just lurking, reading what other people thought about the episode. I don't mean to intrude, but I feel like I need to let you know that Hispanic means "of or relating to the people, speech, or culture of Spain or of Spain and Portugal" besides the meaning that United States Citizen give to the word (Latinamerican descendants living in the USA).

"...very typical of Hispanic cultures, as well as some other European countries like Portugal, Spain and Italy..."
I was commenting about that. European countries like Portugal and Spain are Hispanic cultures.

I'm not trying to fight about preferred terms. In fact, I don't understand why people care too much about the background of a person. But that's a big issue for some people, so I try to stay away from the argument.

I just wanted to let you know that Spain and maybe Portugal are Hispanic cultures, besides the use people give the term for Latin American cultures.

I don't even remember who Nancy is.

Ah, ok. I see what you mean there, though I admit I was confused by your first post.

And I think we're playing with semantics here. I answered the comment very quickly during a break at work, so forgive me for being redundant in the sentence.

It's ok. It's just that I'm tired people assuming stuff about me. And asking me if I'm latina, or latino, or Hispanic, or white, or whatever. I just am. I don't care if they need to put me in a box inside their heads; I don't need to. So every time people talk about those terms it drives me crazy. And they were asking me all those questions the same day I read your comment, and it kind of triggered me. Seriously, I shouldn't even have commented. I was having a crazy day.

I was highly amused by the House of Wax dig personally.
