This shouldn't need to be said, but:

- It is NOT okay to out a blogger, because of issues like what happened to Kathy Sierra. Your anger in an Internet argument does NOT outrank another individual's safety, physical or otherwise. Especially when you're using outing as a tool to silence dissenting arguments. Especially when your outrage is a result of your privilege being threatened.
- It is not appropriate to claim that RaceFail 2009 is "making" you racist, Elizabeth Bear. I can't believe I ever recommended your work. I can't believe I followed your LJ for advice on writing. Maybe that's why I'm so invested in this, aside from trying to own my shit. Because I looked up to you as a fan made good. But this is bullshit.
- The echoing silence from most of sci-fi/fantasy publishing? The victim blaming? That is not fucking on.

In better news, fandom has created lemonade via a meme linking narrative kink with new POC-friendly fandom here.

ETA: Also, altogether like this, Race Fail 2009 is about as funny as a brick to the head.

Yes, yes, exactly this. On the one hand it's hard to believe that certain people involved can ever believe it's okay to behave as they are doing, but on the other hand... not so hard to believe, because people suck.

Yeah. I just didn't expect these particular people to suck this particular amount.

I know, right? These are people who are supposed to be the smart ones, working for the forces of good. But instead of listening and learning, they're digging themselves into safe little holes and hurting the entire community in the process. That makes it doubly disappointing.

That Bear response is complete and utter crap. It pisses me off so much.

But check out this awesome response to Bear's statement: Sees Fire (http://bossymarmalade.livejournal.com/483524.html)

I read her post and got so angry, I could vibrate. And I love how she redefined her past response by saying that she started all of this by accepting flawed criticism. She had golden-skinned people in her book, y'all! Empirical proof that she's not racist!

'Cause, you know, white people don't tan.

*headdesks forever*

I just. I can't believe her, man. And I can't believe that TWO DAYS LATER, she is sniffing around other blogs looking to "mea culpa" again. DUDE. You just admitted that you LIED. Why should we believe you? Seriously? Seriously?
