That's... pretty much what I've got. And I think that exorcism is going to come around again, because between this and the one-off ouija board comment earlier in the season, my pet fanon is that John is wandering around the country trying to ride the right wires to connect to HIS BOYS. Because if anybody would look at heaven's gates and go "later, I'm busy," it's John Effing Winchester.

Besides, I think dying for your son, going to hell, clawing your way *out* of hell, fulfilling a lifelong quest for vengeance and whatnot might possibly cause a few changes in the old personality.

Heh, one of my first reactions to the ep WAS "dude, John's the touchiest-feeliest Winchester after all!"

We can't underestimate the effect of John's growing older, either, if my own dad is anything to go by. He's become positively soggy, he's so mushy. *laughs*


I was just thinking of how many life experiences John's had that neither Dean nor Sam has-not only being in a steady, sexual relationship with someone he trusts, but being in love, being married, being a dad...being happy, during those few years of peace before it all went to hell.

Surely, John's been through enough shattering, life-altering experiences to allow the man to tell his boy he loves him, especially considering he's DEAD now.

Exactly, God, yes. John's been moderately civilized. (Though I have my theories about John's upbringing and how that could lead him to divorce his parents from their lives, go off to Vietnam and easily adapt to hunting, not to mention his slightly abrupt parenting and the fact that he might well have smacked Sam one during DMB if Dean hadn't intervened.) Sam had a girlfriend and is also moderately civilized, though less so now. So yeah, while I can see why people think "I love you" = DEMON, I personally think that doesn't necessarily mean it's not John.

Coincidentally, I owe you a huge THANK YOU for all the wonderful packages I've been getting. Even if House of Stairs gave me nightmares. *grin* Can I give you fic in response? Just name your poison.

I first read House of Stairs when I was 13 and it gave me nightmares then, too. I found it again a few years ago at a used book store and bought a copy which then sat on my shelf untouched for months. I was scared to pick it up! (The cover was spooky, ok?) I finally had to take it back to the store and swap it out for something else. I think what gets me is how very *possible* it is, with there being so many "disposable" people in the world. *shivers*

I would have addressed the packages to Teesa, too, but I don't know her last name. How far have you gotten? I got more where those came from because amazon is my bestest friend, but I don't want to overwhelm you all at once. I'm pretending I've got some subtlty.


I don't think The Need is particularly well-written, from what I remember; but it's the concept of the Androgyne that I really liked. Intriguing.

Soldier is a good movie and I still don't understand why it didn't do better in the theaters. Kurt Russell's movies are usually very solid and he turns in good to great performances; unfortunately, he's like Dennis Quaid, can't seem to get beyond a certain rung on the Hollywood ladder.

Quarelling, They Met the Dragon is one of those novels I read in my teens that came out and disappeared quickly and quietly; and yet every once in a while, I'll see it mentioned on a rec list or in commentary somewhere. It's not really "apocafiction", but the coping methods that the people came up with are...yucky, for one thing. But like something in an apocafic.


My favorite stories in Still, I Persist in Wondering are the one about Conan and David, and the one with Night Wind in the title. Pangborn's got a lovely way with language.

I'm thinking something with Jeff clothed and Jensen naked, preferably in a public setting. An interrupted gang bang or saving him from a bad dom who doesn't appreciate him properly? Both? Jeff, taking some guy's collar off Jensen and putting his own there? *flails*

I certainly wouldn't turn down a spanking...for Jensen, I mean. But anything, really. I don't think you *can* write anything unappealing.
