Okay, this isn't exactly fandom related, but I saw it on a FW-related comm.

Abercrombie & Fitch banishes an employee with a prosthetic arm to the back because she doesn't fit their beauty standards. Same company has also been in trouble for doing the same to their POC employees, and for creating racist slogans on their t-shirts.

My first year of university, I went to a college in OH where freshmen tours were asked if they wore A&F. If so, oh, you'd fit into this community so well! It was an immediate sign that the non-pretty people weren't welcome; I've never been so damned glad I a) transferred, and b) didn't fit in there in the first place. Ugh.

ETA: Those t-shirts mentioned above.

Back in college, I had a few 'beautiful people' as roommates. One of them worked for AF just like 3 hours a week so he could get the employee discount on clothes. I know he wasn't the only one.

Its stupid, but i'm glad to have concrete proof that there is some basis to the creepy feeling the store has always given me and heck, I'm only part of the 'white & nerdy' demographic, I can only imagine how the POC/special needs people must feel.
