disorganized TTRPG musical flailing 36
May. 29th, 2026 03:15 pmI have a d&d oneshot I'm very excited about tonight, but tomorrow afternoon is a new session of Marchen, which is a homebrew campaign about twisted fairy tales. I won't have time tomorrow morning to put up a song, so I'm doing so now:
my oath of redemption paladin Dalton is on the struggle bus at the moment. he's a half-elf defector from an enemy army of the land of elves, Akhiilor, who broke his original paladin oath to a god who is TOTALLY not reskinned Corellon with the fucked-up aspects cranked up to 11. his new oath is to attempt to avoid unnecessary violence because he's trying to make amends for all the innocent people he's killed on his old god's orders and (to a lesser extent) because he wants to be worthy of the regent who he's been pining after for years. it's not going well. he just finished a combat with a bunch of half-elf soldiers from Akhiilor who were indoctrinated from birth like he was, and he tried to convince them to switch sides so the party wouldn't be forced to kill them. he saved three of the soldiers from death, but in the process he got knocked unconscious and watched one of the soldiers get devoured alive by rats. it was not a happy fun party time.
it's the first real test of his oath since he got out of prison. his new party is pissed at him for seemingly faffing about in a life or death situation. he's pissed at himself for failing and feels foolish for even trying. this mission is forcing him miles away from the regent that's his moral center and he's just found out that there are traitors in the regent's castle where he can't reach them. in short, Dalton was raised to be a weapon and the oath took that away. he intended to die in prison, where only his own life would be on the line, and at the moment he doesn't see how he's any use to the regent at all. his oath had fault lines from the beginning and they're already starting to show. it'll be interesting to see how he recovers from this, and I'm loving the drama.
