disorganized TTRPG musical flailing 34
Feb. 6th, 2026 08:10 amtonight is the night for Eve of Vecna, the d&d game that's a continuation of our Curse of Strahd campaign, and this is a song I've been listening to and thinking of Tali the grave cleric:
Tali's been reeling since his death at his supposed best friend Dzaan's hands and subsequent traumatic resurrection into the wrong body via a passing druid, which erased his memory of his life aside from being murdered by someone he loved. I joke about his mega-depression, but the boy is a mess compared to who he used to be. he started the campaign five years after his resurrection which he spent mostly in a frozen, numb state of just trying to exist. over the course of the campaign, it's helped a lot that he met the party's monk, who started as his companion in side-eyeing Barovia's nonsense and has become something of an ACTUAL best friend who genuinely cares for him and vice versa. but a couple sessions ago he found out that Dzaan turned himself into a lich and was killed by an adventuring party (it was the crew from our Frostmaiden campaign), so he's kind of trying to deal with the weird feeling of hating himself for grieving his murderer but not really being able to help it because that was his one link to his past life. he was stupid in love with Dzaan despite the guy being terrible, and it doesn't help that the ritual he was murdered for only could've worked if Dzaan loved him back in whatever capacity he could manage. it's a strange wound.
tl;dr, Tali is a grieving and impulsive disaster right now, poking at the memory of his own death like a sore tooth because it's all that he has, and I'm plotting to do something at the beginning of this session to reflect that. which I probably won't pull off because Tali's stealth and deception are garbage, but I'm gonna try.
