well, my estranged father apparently died on the 16th. I found out on Facebook. I just texted my brother for the first time in 10 years because I guess I no longer have to worry about things getting back to my father. I have no idea how I'm feeling about this yet.

I hope you can have a meaningful relationship with your brother, now that things are as they are. I know estrangement is never easy and I hope that you can find some peace with things now.

When my own estranged father died, the thing that got me most was my mom's grief, because while I had mourned his loss years before, it was fresh to her.
