I haven't written about perfumes in a long while, because a) migraines and b) no moneys. A locket scent-diffuser helped a lot with the perfumes causing me headaches. I've found a new online perfume source (because of winning a Wincon raffle, yay Wincon!) that has a sense of humor and a quick turn-around time, plus great customer service, and I thought I'd do a scent review.

Smell Bent has a collection of perfumes based on "the usual characters", which could just be them being smartasses, but it's basically classic perfumes tropes: the pirate perfume, the incense perfume, the devil perfume, the shiny-happy-people perfume, the hippie perfume.

Scent description: freshly baked pot brownies dusted with cassia over an earthy dose of finely aged patchouli. not bad for someone who hates to wear shoes.

(Don't judge my bare feet, Smell Bent.)

Straight out of the bottle, this smelled like freshly cooked brownies, all dark and chocolate-y. Like the EDGE brownies. The oil is deep brown, almost black. The chocolate smell stuck with me for about 4.5 hours, until I was about to leave work, where it smelled chocolate-y and flowery (the cassia? I wouldn't recognize cassia if I tripped over it), and then it turned... herbal.

Not like "oh, it smells green," like perfume people say; it smelled like weed. It smelled like I had been smoking up in my car. It made me wish I was in California and had access to medical marijuana, is what I'm saying. I have nostalgia. Nobody noticed, so it didn't have much carry, but this is a weekend smell for me.

By the time I got out of my car, it had switched to patchouli. It was like an entire pot brownie trip: mmm chocolate, Phish concert in my car, oh shit I think somebody called the campus cops so let me splash on patchouli.

I give it 4 stars out of 5. Mostly because it didn't come with a little baggie of "oregano".

That's why she had to get a scent locket. I have so many allergy and migraine, and general "Ew, smell" issues that it was the best way for us to continue in married bliss.

I'm not sure what my allergies are but scents will give me a migrane faster than I can blink.

It's wonderful that you've worked something out. *hugs*

I'm sorry. *smish* Do soaps and body washes bother you? I ask because I have good recs for those, if you can stand them. They are easier for me on migraine days because they smell good and then are gone when I'm done. And in some cases, they help the headaches: mint and rosemary and lavender soaps have been known to take the sharp edges off my headache.

Also, are you taking anything for the migraines? I'm shopping around for good meds. Zomig is my new one, and it works but it's really pricey.

Anyway. TL:DR, I apologize for being nosy.

Most bodywash is okay. Some soaps can cause the migraine because the scent lingers. I would love some good recs. I tend to try and avoid triggery things as I don't have health insurance and cannot afford medicine. My daughter is on Verapamil (very low dose) for her migraines and it helps (not one migraine for 3 months).

Oh! I'm the one who donated those samples. It's fun to know they went to someone on my flist. :) BTW- "Sunshine" is my favorite of the SmellBent line. It's an orange-patchouli thing, and I get compliments on it every time I wear it. Highly recommended. :)

Aw, that was you? Thank you! They're really bringing me joy.

I have Sunshine for my next order. *bounce*

My icon is by [livejournal.com profile] ingenueicons - I love Alison Lohman. I used the pics from this photo shoot for my hairstyle for like a year. :)
