6. Where are you most comfortable writing? At what time of day? Computer or good ol' pen and paper?

My favorite time to write is leftover programming from my last job: I don't tend to start things until 3 pm. It used to be the time that the students were done for the day and my evil boss had left. With the new job, 3 pm is after I've had some time to brainstorm while walking, but it puts me against the wall in terms of when T comes home and I stop for the day. Not ideal, although sometimes I've ground out about 1300+ words and I know if I push for more, the quality will tank, so that works out okay. IDK. I always used to do this for term papers, too, waiting until the last minute because adrenaline lit my pilot flame.

I'm most comfortable writing at home in the basement, where I'm unlikely to interrupted by anything but the cats. If I'm in a real groove, I've been known to eject Mao from the bedroom, because he has a habit of punctuating his affection with mournful wails like O MAMA, I HAVE BEEN IN THE DESERT FOR YEEEEARS WITH NO LOVE, and then pinning me to the bed and sitting on my typing hands.

Mostly I do more work on the computer, but I wrote 3600 words in New Orleans on paper and most of my finished work has been hand-written. It gives me a chance to rewrite. However, it also takes me longer to get to the finished product and to read what I've written and convince myself that it's crap, or unnecessary, or whatever. My internal editor is a right bitch when she gets to transcribing.

However, I've stalled on the werewolf bigbang (on anything, really) and so I need to try hand-writing again to shake words out of my brain like loose change in a dryer.

In other news:

- I am sick as a dog. I woke up too early, feeling like I got beat with the fever stick. It broke while I was napping just now, but I can tell it'll be back. Thank God the people I usually dogsit for during the week are home on break right now, because this plus 100 degrees in the sun? No, thank you.
- We are watching Avatar: the Last Airbender on DVD, on [livejournal.com profile] poisontaster's recommendation. Oh, ZUKO.
