I'm trying to think of how that comment could've been dumber, and I'm not coming up with much. *eyeroll*

While I'm not excusing his answer at all, during the entire article he doesn't exactly sound like he's got a brain in his head. I'd say he sounds like a fangirl but that's insulting to fangirls everywhere. All he could gush about was flying to Philly. I've been to Philly it wasn't that exciting of a town.

So I'm not all that surprised that he said something so incredibly stupid. But it does make me headdesk.

I was horribly offended, then I took a deep breath and remembered that sometimes cartoon characters are so cartoony - and to be fair, that guy has a cartoony-looking face - that maybe all he would need to do was get a tan and change his hair to look exactly like the character, regardless of race. Maybe it's just one of those things.

Bearing in mind I knew nothing about this show at all. I googled the character.

Yeah. No.

The comment was offensive and dumb, and M. Night has fallen yet another rung down the ladder of my goodwill. I thought that he couldn't dig himself into a hole any deeper than the Signs one. Now he's not just an untalented bore, he's a racist one too. Nice. Stay classy guys. Stay classy.

y'know, he could've just said "The director feels I'm the best actor for the job for his own reasons, and my job is simply to do the best I can in the role. I don't know what they're planning with regards to wardrobe and make up, but I have faith in his creative vision."

Which would be, you know, a relatively diplomatic answer for an actor who for whatever reason doesn't want to pull out of the project entirely.

Whoa... EPIC fail. I can kinda handwave casting Chinese actors in Japanese roles because hey, you're an actor. Casting a white actor in an Asian role and then saying "I just need a tan" however... not cool. There are so few roles out there for minorities to begin with! So to cast white actors in minority roles is just spitting in the face of all the talented minority actors!

That is very very diplomatic. If I ever get cast in an awkward role I'm totally asking you for a spin on it. That response right there feels almost CLASSY in a completely unclassy situation.

oh god, what a fucking tool. That was the best thing he could say?

No you fool you say that you are going to have a look that is inspired by the character but in the movie it's a whole re-imagining. And then people think 'whatever' but they don
t think you are missing a frontal lobe.
