If or when I mention politics or political parties in this journal, I do not mean you. I don't mean your uncle or your aunt or your grandmother. I am very angry at the direction the US is taking, but my anger is directed at the architects of that change: Rove, Bush, Cheney, the Democratic and Republican senators who did nothing to stop it, the "free" press that did no investigation.

HOWEVER. In the course of the last few years, I have heard my relationship compared to fucking animals. I have been called a child molestor, a destroyer of our country, a traitor. My mom's lost access to her medication. My partner lost her health insurance. In the current election, the Republican party has run a campaign that seeks to deny me adoption rights, marriage rights, access to the medications that keep me from bleeding to death every few months because the pharmacist objects. The political is very personal, and I am angry. I will not apologize for being angry. If that hurts your feelings because you feel I'm being too harsh on your party, then I'm sorry, but I will continue to speak. I suggest you get thicker thin or stop reading.

As always, every day is defriending amnesty day.

Can I get an Amen!

Sorry, I didn't comment on your Wise posting, but I have since forwarded it to all the people on my personal email list (even though I had already read it twice before) but your simple plea to get it out there was the nudge it took. I sent it to people whether I thought they would agree or not. I feel like those that don't agree with it are the ones who need to read it the most - the ones who are the target audience. Otherwise, it's just preaching to the choir. In other words, us.

I'm sorry you got backlash - everything has become so much more in this election. I offended quite a few of my f-list as well when I posted that on my journal a few days ago. *hugs* I know I don't really comment on here much except for fb on the awesomeness, but I wanted to stop by and offer a hug cause I'm right there with you.

As I Canadian, I try to be sensitive to the outsider critising USA, which seems to anger a lot of Americans.

That being said, your country is a little fucked up and unfortunately Canada has a powerful policiatl partys that wants us (Canadians) to follow suit.

Amen. But I'll have to admit that it's not just Bush and Company that piss me off. I'm mad as hell at the idiots who "elected" them (or at least allowed them to steal the elections). They say we get the government we deserve, but I can't think of a thing I've done that would make me deserve the disastrous government we've got now.

Rock on. I think this is what some people do not get. No, gay rights are not fodder for intellectual debate, because it's MY FUCKING LIFE.

I agree, especially that Bush et al are not the full extent of the problem. Yes, Republicans are worse than Democrats about these issues, but the Dems don't make the stands they should. All that's necessary for the Republicans to triumph is for the Democrats to remain silent (with apologies to Dietrich Bonhoffer). I mean, seriously, there are so many reasons women are on birth control: my mom takes it as HRT, my sister used to take it for acne, various medical conditions (including yours and mine, though I haven't gone there yet for my folicular cysts), even simple predictabilty. And because some twit has a lab coat we have to justify that to him? Fuck that shit. If you don't want to perform abortions, don't work at Planned Parenthood. If you don't want to dispense birth control pills, don't work as a pharmacist. Seriously, is the next thing my pharmacist telling me he thinks ADD/ADHD isn't real, so he's not giving me my Ritalin? Or telling you that your pain is all in your head and refusing to give you your Lyrica? There is no logical end to this nonsense. There's a reason doctors do the prescribing and pharmacists don't. The doctors are trained to evaluate the patient's needs and respond accordingly. Pharmacists? Trained to read labels and count.

A pharmacist's specialty is drug interactions. If you are on a lot of different medications they are often more knowledgeable than an MD about problems that may arise. That being said, to not fill a prescription because a combination is contraindicated is one thing, to not fill it out for personal reasons, shaky professional ethics there.

you have every right to be angry, everyone should be angry, there is no way you should feel like you should have to justify your thoughts in any way.

It's sickening, isn't it? Especially when we're supposed to be in such an "enlightened" time. One of my best friends is gay and whenever I hear someone gay-bashing, it makes me SO MAD!! My roommate's boyfriend was doing it a few months ago and I got into an argument with him over it. His reason that gays are "bad": one of his male friends was raped by a gay guy, so obviously that makes all gay men rapists. WTF?!?! First of all, women get raped all the freakin' time by STRAIGHT men, but that's okay just as long as it doesn't happen to a GUY. The second it turns around on them, it's suddenly a big deal. He also did the "child molester" argument - there's a biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig difference between being homosexual and being a child molester. There's plenty of those pervs that are straight, so it's obviously not related to sexual orientation.

What the Republican party is trying to do is disgusting and a blatant violation of individual rights. If it's between two consenting adults, what's the problem? You can't help who you love and everyone deserves to be happy.

If McCain is elected, I'm moving to Canada. The Republicans have done SO much harm to this country over the last 8 years. Greed has definitely taken over. I mean, our economy is at its worst since the Great Depression! But Bush has the nerve to stand up and tell us how wonderful everything is and that our economy is just fine? As long as the uber wealthy, corporate assholes get wealthier, I guess the rest of us are just supposed to suck it up and be happy little worker ants.

I'm not even sure the Democrats will do any better because the fact is, you can't get that high in our government without selling out. That being said, I still think Obama is a better choice over McCain. I just hope that if he's elected, he isn't as corrupt as the Bush Administration.

Ok. Sorry - rant over. lol I got carried away...

This election is depressing for me on all sides. McCain and Palin are what they are.

Obama does not believe that you should be allowed to own a gun to defend your own life. He voted against a bill that would allow women with restraining orders out on their abusers or stalkers to acquire carry permits.

Back in the day they said "We hold these truths to be self evident" sadly they don't appear evident to our politicians.

I'll be honest, the major candidates leave me cold. I don't like Obama's economic stance, and McCain's social politics are way too bigoted for my tastes. Nevermind the whole mess with Palin allegedly trying to force a guy out of office for not firing her sister's ex-husband.

I may just vote for Ralph Nader, Bob Barr or Morris the Cat. Heh - at least Morris could unite this country.

Well, you sure told me. Apparently, being your "friend" means I can't express my opinion.

I don't need friends like that.

I'm not sure which part of this indicates to you that you can't express your opinion.

From: [identity profile] twasadark.livejournal.com
The entire TONE of the message, and for that matter the tone of the other replies you made to me. I want friends I can have a dialogue with, not friends who basically tell me that I'm wrong and I should get a thicker skin when I don't agree with them. A previous comment in which you said "You're argument is flawed" or something to that effect pretty much said that flat out.

Look, I get that you're angry. You post frequently about disability issues. And you see angry about them. I'm disabled, too. I don't like it any; frankly, it really sucks. But I can't spend my time and energy being pissed off at other people/institutions/etc because of it. I just don't see how that is going to improve the situation any. It just makes me miserable, and the people around me miserable.

I hate arguing - I really do. And I'm sure you're a great person. You're a very talented writer and you're obviously a thinking person. It's just really tiresome to listen to other people's opinions without having my own being heard and I suppose that's why I made that first post to begin with. Politics is filled with such division, red vs. blue states and so on. But we're ALL Americans. We all respond to ideals and emotion - that's why stories are so powerful. I just want us as a country to respect each other and build from that rather than point fingers.

I don't even know if I'm making any sense. I just know that there are a lot of people out there like me who normally keep their mouths shut and let the squeaky wheels get the oil. But we all definitely have our own opinions and act accordingly when we're at the polls.

Wow. Speaking of anger, you seem to have plenty.

1. You're damn right we're pissed. Both Jess and I got whupped with the disability stick in the last few years. Both of us had several years of misdiagnosis, where we were accused of being overdramatic/whiners/drug seekers. I lost my health insurance immediately after diagnosis. Both of our bosses practices the single most passive-aggressive version of "accomodations" around. Tends to make one a little cranky.

2. The post was in reference to a totally unrelated incident on another journal. I got into an arguement with someone who felt the need to tell me that she valued her (upperclass) tax break more than my civil liberties. It wasn't pretty.

3. I appreciate that you like our fic. I do. Thank you. But we're not going to agree on everything. And we're going to be passionate, and yes, angry about things. And that's our right. Neither of us will sit quietly in the corner, because we did that. And it got Jess labeled as hysterical, and me as a drug seeker. No more.

Thanks for your response. I'm sorry that you've both had physical challenges and that your bosses didn't treat you right. That sucks. It's hard to have these kind of conversations even with people who have the common bond of family/love/friendship/whatever much less people who've never met over the internet. I don't think we truly understand where each of us is coming from, but that's okay. I've had those conversations with my daughter as well, more than once .... (and btw, I'm working on her and my husband - presenting different viewpoints and whatnot to their conservatism).

I agree that sitting quietly in the corner isn't the answer to any of the challenges that we face. I'm trying to live in a way that respects and uplifts others, although I suspect that I fail more than succeed. This is why I love animals - they are so simple, not complex like humans, lol.

Anyhow, I wish you the best and apologize for any grief or annoyance I may have caused you.
