nilchance: original art from a vintage print; art of a woman being struck by lightning (dancin' fat girl)
Librarian reports that there aren't enough boys in kidlit. I contemplate smacking her with my large copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Or Redwall. Or Perry Jackson (?) and the Lightning Thief. Or Peter Pan. Hell, one could argue that even Twilight is ultimately a book about men struggling over an empty construct called Bella. Long story short, tell your sons that reading the (few) female dominated kidlit books will not contaminate them with girl cooties. Male does not equal the default.

*koff* Sorry, too much time in the kid section of Barnes and Noble, where most books for girls involved princesses, horses, glitter, and glittering princesses with horses.

Chronic pain warriors: "It may or may not turn out OK. Regardless, here we are with the hand we’re dealt, so let’s do the best damn job we can and juice this muthafucka for all the spirituality and learning and growing and strengthening and deepening we can get out of it." Amen.
