And he finally got a tiny breather. Surprised he could even move after that, though. Tough *and* stubborn, just like a Winchester should be. And I include Mary in that.
Totally unsurprised that Dean's first thought on hearing that Sam is still alive is (paraphrased) "gotta protect Sammy". And his second thought is to sacrifice himself to keep Sam alive. Not that he wasn't already planning on doing so, but such reinforcement of his intention.
And now I'm starting to tear up a little, after the fact. I have to go rest up before the next part gets posted.
