I found this poking through the EMH comm's F-List and, at the risk of looking like a creepy stalker, had to leave some feedback.
This was an excellent read. You do Creepy extremely well, there's just the right balance of details, descriptions, pacing and introspection for the desired effect. It doesn't get boring and at the same time doesn't drown the reader with so many happenings that it loses atmosphere.
And the atmosphere is...it's a middle-class home in the middle of the daytime and it's freaky as shit. I guess part of that comes from Alex's...safe-place where his parents are alive, we'll call it? Very nice plot device, the way we never leave his POV and see the world as he sees it, how we know it's wrong but it's so well-integrated it's easy to believe he's perfectly sane even as he's inventing conversations and laughing because his guidance counselor is so not helping.
This whole thing is like the seedy underbelly of Slice of Life, and I love it. If you write anymore EMH, you've got at least one permanent stalker reader.
