30 Days of Writing meme:

2. How many characters do you have? Do you prefer males or females?

This question just got stalled for like 5 hours on account of sudden migraine. Ow ow ow. So, y'know, if this degenerates into keysmash, bear that in mind.

Basically, my answer depends on how your define 'my' characters. Characters I've written, period? Characters I've created? Characters who came from the notoriously loose "canon" of RPF? Characters I AU'ed? Or just characters that I've become so fond of that I think of them as my boys/girls?

To steal an answer from [livejournal.com profile] poisontaster: lots. I've written lots of them. That's a lot of meta for such a short answer, huh?

As for the second question, I definitely am in my comfort zone with writing men. I need to grow from that place; I have the same groundwater poison assumptions that "well, men are more interesting" and "men are less passive" and so on. I rejected my femininity so hard and for so long. But those assumptions are untrue and I know that they're underfoot now, and so I'm trying to do better. (Oh god, and I bet I am trying while I flail.)

I like complete characters, male or female. I love Zoe and Leia and Parker and Aisha and Amelia. I love women who look like me, like Jane on Drop Dead Diva. I love women who are fierce without being warriors, like Charity from the Dresden Files. When I find a female character I love, I hold them to my heart even harder just because I KNOW they aren't easy to find.
