Code of Ethical Behavior for Patients: Okay, this isn't new for BADD, but it's my first time reading it. Unfortunately true. "Attempt to suffer with the disease you are being treated for. It is very discourteous to your Doctor if you keep changing symptoms."

Step It Up, Wimp!: an interesting look at the ableism inherent in social justice debates, where allies are accused of "checking out" when things become too stressful. An ally with CFS and fibro looks at checking out, and how her health has to be balanced against her fight.

Diary of a Goldfish: this is where all the BADD entries are coded. The host blogger is generally amazing, btw.

Our rescue count is up to 20 dogs. We drove two, Bri (Chow/Lab mix, very neurotic) and Nyla (a bat-eared Sheppard mix who snored the whole way) and overnighted one (Patches, a pit mix couch potato). I always want to tell the people who think transporting is a great sacrifice we make that no, it's not about that. We gain as much from the dogs as they do from us.

Dogs have an innate spirit that calms and settles me, even when they're freaking out. They make me check in with my body and mood; if I'm stressed, I have to level myself out to help the dogs. And any dog lover can tell you about the great feeling of a dog sprawled across your feet, snoring away. Patches connected well with our cats. Gracie, the kitten, sat on the couch beside Patches and batted curiously at the pitbull whip tail. At one point, Gracie had that tail in her mouth, and Patches just wagged harder. That's joy, right there. That's why I do it.

Other points of interest: we went to the county spring festival in the pouring rain, with our canes tapping out a beat. Ate spiral potatoes and concession food. Then we drove out to Arlington, VA, and dodged around in THAT downpour to find a cute wee crepe place. Coconut curry with lentils and spinach. With that food, I could see becoming a vegetarian. After, we went to a cupcake bakery (Lavender Moon) and nommed their amazing flourless chocolate cupcake, trying not to moan out loud with how GOOD it was.

Sunday, I was so tired from our night with Patches that my vision doubled and blurred. I went back to bed, slept until noon with T beside me. Lazy day. I need at least one a weekend in order to face the workweek. We ventured as far as Pizza John (tiny pepperoni!) and then Mystickal Voyages, our local pagan store. Bought candles for some prosperity magic. Listened to geeks in the coffee shop compare the environmental situation to the Borg, except like Replicators, because the Borg can't reproduce themselves, and blah blah blah. While we were there, I made an appt with an acupuncturist for Tuesday. Will report then.

Will have pictures of Patches soon.
