I'm a fan of the Exorcist, if by fan you mean "oh Jesus *hide* eeeeeep!" With some flailing. But I actually like the exorcism in Devil's Trap best, for the fact that Meg managed to be sincerely creepy simply by staring, rocking in place, and watching the boys like if they made one lapse, she'd be on their throats in a heartbeat. So, yeah. Quiet and creepy was more effective in this case in our minds. (Plus, the demon didn't get much pause to push sideways into Dean's body, between the pain and John Winchester, badass 3 minute exorcist.) So they missed the head-twisty pea soup bullet, but they did have to pay a price. Dean's missing pieces. Sam did himself some major damage. And John'll hate himself for years. And yes, the demon can still get at Dean's mind, if not do him physical damage, so the poor schmucks still aren't done.
It was kind of both, Sam as grown-up and Dean being sliiiightly protective of the Sammy nickname. ;) It's one of the few things he actually remembers, as opposed to what he tells them he remembers. Sammy, the chunky 12 year old band geek. *grin*
