And the parallel symbolism--Castiel keeps Dean from eating the food of 'Paradise' (Myth of Persephone, anyone?) and frees him from captivity with his own blood, while Ruby feeds Sam her own blood and keeps him a prisoner of her lies.

YES. This is a really good point. Yes. And that when Mary came to hallucinating Sam, there was blood covering her WOMB. Interesting stuff.

I'm really glad someone else thought about Persephone in all that. I kept thinking "don't eat the food" Dean. In a way, it also reminded me a lot of the biblical "temptation of Christ" bits from the bible (or what vague recollections I have of those from childhood). Really fraking amazing parallels there.
