A brilliant essay by Elizabeth Bear on Generation XYZ.

We are pedestrians in a world without sidewalks, striding across traffic against the light. We are overqualified, overeducated, overworked, overstimulated, underpaid, underemployed, undervalued and underwhelmed. Our cats have their shots, but we don't have health insurance.

And 15 years later it is still just as true. I remember my Junior High teachers (this would have been around 1981) telling us that we would all be killed in the nuclear first strike and we should be grateful for that.

My god, that's harsh.

I remember watching the Oklahoma City bombing and my mom going "this is the end of innocence." So. Yeah, this rang true.
