My husband used to take neurontin for his chronic back pain, and the forgetfulness got so bad that I begged him to talk to the doctor about it. The doctor switched him to Lyrica (it is chemically like neurontin after it is metabolized by your body - but without the brain-fart part - according to the doctor), and that seemed to help. I don't know if that is an option for you or not. It is damnably expensive.
