This makes me wonder how Retrievers and Librarians are selected-by genetic qualifications, such as they're naturally smarter or faster than other people, naturally more violent, etc; or by inheiritance, with certain bloodlines inheiriting each status, which would also probably mean a hereditary government. *muses* And what kind of training, and possible body modification they have to undergo. There's obviously some tampering, with the computer uplinks for data transfer; but what else might be required?

It's fascinating that both Jeff and Jensen have haunted pasts. Each has lost their partner, with the implication that it was probably by violence, and traumatic for them. Retrievers are apparently valuable enough that they're tolerated even when unbalanced. Are Librarians more readily available, that Jensen has to worry about being dragged back for indoctrination and possible abandonment in the data stream? There's just so much going on under the surface here!!!
