Hmm. I love that Dean got into college and that he had to make a decision too, but a full ride to MIT? This is a quibble, but that pulled me out of the story. MIT seems too big a name for Dean, and, personally, I think it would have been better if Dean got into a decent school with a decent scholarship. Something more normal, so to speak, and easier to give up. Giving up a full ride to MIT is just-- there's no way Sam would be able not to hear about it. Even within high school, rumors would circulate, and I imagine Sam would be, if not sensitive to, then at least aware of the things that are said about them.

And I feel bad for starting my first comment to this story with that. But, for the entirity of this fic, everything else has flowed so perfectly that this was really the only thing to jerk me out of the narrative. I started reading when twenty-five chapters were out, and I read through those in one sitting, and have been waiting on the edge of my seat for every new chapter. This fic reads like an episode, only with more emotional continuity, and it amazes me how perfectly you have these guys down.

And? That first Sam-on-the-stairs scene? Brilliant dialogue.

Also, this is possibly my favorite bit of the chapter:

"Found a cord," Sam said, with a perverse sort of little brother glee. Rubbing his thumb across it, he tilted his head. "Wow. Can you hear that? It sproings."

"Sammy, stop playing Freebird on your brother's tendons," John said mildly, opening the DVD case.

The little bits of humor and the easy give-and-take of references just show how comfortable they are with each other. Gah. I love the way you two are writing this. Just-- love it. I have no doubt the next chapter is going to round off the story perfectly.
